About the Course
The Road Safety and Travel Awareness Team offer a one day course for young people who already hold a full driving licence to improve their road safety skills. The course costs £20.00 and covers a variety of issues that young drivers face when driving as well as the chance to meet people who have been involved in accidents to learn and talk about the realities of what reckless driving can do.
The course will take place at venues in Leicestershire.We are currently putting together dates for 2009 and details will be posted online as soon as they are available.

Statistics show young drivers are most at risk of having an accident in the two years or so after passing their test – one in five newly qualified drivers have a crash within a year. You can also lose your licence if you increase that risk by committing offences like speeding.
If you run six or more penalty points, you’ll get a letter telling you your licence is no longer valid and you will have to apply for a new provisional licence to continue driving as a learner.
Penalty points
The main penalty point offences are:
Speeding: 3-6 points
Going through a red light: 3 points
Careless driving: 3-9 points
Driving without insurance: 6-8 points
Failing to stop after an accident: 5-10 points
How to Enrol
If you would like to enrol on a course, please complete the application form with a cheque (payable to Leicestershire County Council) and return it as soon as possible, to the address on the contact page. The course costs £20 for residents of Leicestershire County, although the course is also open to Leicester city and Rutland residents (please get in touch to check availability and costs if this applies and you are interested in attending).
Please note that the parent or guardian must complete the consent form on page 3 of the application form.
The driver MUST also bring both parts (card and paper section) of a complete driving licence to be able to take part. Anyone who arrives for the course without both sections will NOT be allowed to take part.
Confirmation of your date will be forwarded to you in due course.
